Books I Recommend

It’s the time of year when it is a bit colder, windy and there’s more rain. In some places, there’s snow. It’s the perfect time to have a little cozy in your favourite chair with a good book. I want to share some books that I’ve read and reread. These are not book reviews. I’m simply sharing a few books that I love.

The Dark Half by Stephen King is a book that I have read many times. The first time I read this book I was still in high school. My curiosity was piqued because the main character is an author. This story is both intriguing and exciting. This book is definitely for you if you want a reading experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

A book series was recommended to me by someone who said I remind them of a character in the novel. I know, I also thought, “Hmmmm, here we go.” However, I’m a huge fan of this series and I am still reading it. If I had come across these books on my own, I would have never read them. I’m very impatient and generally shy away from books that involve world building. C. J. Cherryh’s Foreigner series puts both the world building and characters as equally important. They are a must read if you’re a fan of science fiction and fantasy. The way that species integration and contact is handled in this series is interesting. You can start this series with the title, Foreigner.

Supernatural stories are among some of my favourite reads. The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs ticks all the boxes for avid fans. Werewolves and vampires abound along with an unexpected entity. The main character has won my heart with her stoic attitude when it comes to making the hard choices. I’ve enjoyed every book so far and I’m anxiously awaiting the next installment. Moon Called is the first book in this series.

Lastly, if you haven’t heard of him, I’d like to introduce you to Chicago’s professional wizard. That’s right, a wizard! Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files encompass all of the supernatural. If ever want read something a bit different in its approach to the supernatural, look no further. Our hero, Mr. Harry Dresden is worthy of all accolades. He is memorable in every way. His fellow cast of characters will also keep you up turning the pages long into the wee hours of the morning. You can dive right in with Storm Front.

If you haven’t tried any of these books then consider one or more of them. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Now is as good a time as any to start a new book.
