Spring is traditionally a time of renewal and reflection. I can’t think of a better time to focus on my self care. To that end, this month I am adding a self care log into my bullet journal. If you’re like me then this is a true challenge. I never seem to find the time. However, I need to make the time and schedule it in like I do everything else.
This will be more than just tracking the habit of self care. It will document what I am doing exactly for self care. I have decided to keep a log of what I do for self care, simply because I don’t think that I do enough nor do I vary what I do often. While I do take care of myself, most times it’s rushed and I don’t take the time to relax. I want to try using this time to reflect and center myself .
My personal journal is still in use and I love it even more than I thought possible. For me, I find this writing time both relaxing and therapeutic. Writing in this particular way has allowed me to focus more on the positive aspects of each day. My journal usually consists of a free form catalogue and reflection of my day. I use the time to work through anything. Most times, I write about the effects on my person rather than people or have a focus on problems.
I haven’t had time for much self care so far this year, which is the reason I want to focus on it this month. Personally, I think a good time for self care is any time you can be alone. Being in a space, where I can allow my mind to wander is ideal. This has good results when I can truly reflect not only on myself, but my interactions with others. Spending this quiet time engaged in a hobby that you keep meaning to continue or even try for thirty minutes can sometimes be enough to change your outlook on life.
Sometimes though, a bit of pamper time can be refreshingly rewarding when spent in the company of others. Lovely chats or just quiet times spent in the company of those you love can rejuvenate your soul in ways I can’t really describe. At least, this has been my experience.
If being alone tends to make you anxious or revs you up instead of being relaxing, then have a pamper session with others. It can be a one on one interaction where you focus on connecting with a specific friend or family member. Why not treat someone to a relaxing outing or even better, a free activity. A hike outdoors is lovely even if it is accompanied by a bit of leg burn.
The most important thing is to not beat yourself up. I used a self care log last month. Some activities, like writing, I can do over and over. It’s a new month and I improved last month. My goal is to be more consistent this month and to find more ways to have a little self care time in each day.
