First Impressions: Zequenz Journal

When I purchased the Zequenz Roll-Up Journal Signature Classic 360° I picked the A6 (Mini) in Red and this notebook will be my personal journal this year. Logging my activities and writing about my days in my bullet journal has been my preferred tracking method for a while now. However, I need a space to pour out my instinctive thoughts, an uncensored place that also stores my hopes and dreams. This journal will house all of those thoughts and emotions.

The A6 size is 9cm by 14cm, which is about 3.5 inches by 5.5 inches. It is comparable in size to a field notes notebook and sits comfortably in the palm of your hand. The fact that it rolls up easily means that it should be easy to write in on the go, if this is your wish. The cover is made of polyurethane, but has the look of a finely pebbled, almost sandy surface and has a very smooth feel.

This journal has 128 pages with a paper weight of 70gsm, which is good for a majority of pens. The pages will probably not be able to withstand multi-media work, but most regular inks should be fine. I expect to see some ghosting, but no bleed through to the other side of the page.

My journal’s pages are grid style, 4mm square, but this notebook is also available in blank and lined formats. You can confine yourself to these grid spaces or spread out to however large you want to make your words… because sometimes I like the size of my words to reflect my feelings.

This journal does not immediately lie flat straight out of the packaging, although it does have a very trainable spine that you can break in very easily. The fact that it rolls so easily without ripping the pages aids in the journal readily lying flat. After I rolled it a few times it was able to lie flat with no problems.

A handy magnetic bookmark is an added feature of this journal. It will help to easily mark off pages. Sometimes i use the bookmark to mark my place as well.

I can’t wait to journal in this notebook. I chose this page size so that I wouldn’t be too overwhelmed or intimidated. The majority of my journals are A5 size and I immediately thought “It’s so tiny,” when I first saw it, but this is a new adventure for me. I now have a space dedicated to my journaling instead of a few lines with my daily logging. I have journalled before, but not for any extended period of time and I write so often for others to read that when it comes to expressing myself privately on paper unedited, I end up clamming up.

Hopefully, having this dedicated space will be freeing for both my hand and my mind.
