Pre-Plan Your Week

This is more about being able to plan consistently. One of the keys to consistent planning is to build in small routines. The routine can be the order in which you fill out your schedule. This may seem like a small idea, but truly it can make planning out your week go much smoother.

It may be difficult to plan your entire week’s schedule in advance. Writing known quantities down can assist with keeping your days and thus your week balanced.

In my opinion, the most important item that should be added to your schedule are appointments and scheduled tasks or meetings. These are the type of tasks that cannot be easily rearranged in your schedule. These higher value tasks are usually influenced by others in some way. Your work schedule is an example of this type of task. I think that this is applicable to people who work outside the home or are self-employed. Sometimes, these tasks may have precursor tasks that need to occur in order for the task to be able to be accomplished on the set day. They can demand quite a bit of attention and are bounded by time considerations.

Personal tasks that are day specific should be slotted into your upcoming plan next. It can be very easy to put off your own tasks if you are not accountable to anyone other than yourself to get them done. I find myself thinking this way sometimes. Other people’s schedules and goals can suddenly become a high priority in your planner even though the task is not delegated to you. You can find yourself doing the majority of work especially when it comes to group tasks.

Non day specific tasks , but tasks that need to be completed before the end of the week could be scheduled next. These are usually tasks that also need to be completed before the end of the week being scheduled. Some of these tasks are typically not urgent, but need to be done within the week in order to better keep the month on schedule.

Another item that can be quickly entered into your schedule is a habit forming or routine item. These can be planned into the week especially if they do not occur everyday. This can be a habit that happens on a particular day or on any number of days of the week. Some ideas for these types of items can be exercise, writing or reading.

Hopefully, these ideas will make a preplan of your week much easier to accomplish. Organizing your week in advance is always a good way to delegate your tasks to make them more likely to be completed. It can also make it easier to move on to the next task when you have multiple subtasks to complete for a high value task.

May your planning journey be as smooth as possible.
