Fall is the season of transition. It is the movement from summer to winter. This transitional nature of the season is the reason why most of us engage in comforting activities during this time.
Our first foray to get ourselves into the spirit of the fall season is to carve a pumpkin. This is a traditional activity. My favourite part is not the carving itself, but having a candle on the inside of the pumpkin. I like to make a face or scene that allows enough air to come in, but not so much that your candle flame is constantly going out. The smell is amazing, and a must for setting the mood of fall.
Food is something that I get very excited by, like many people. I think it is no surprise that hot chocolate and s’mores are my top picks for my favourite drink and food items during this season. Now, it was a race to the finish between hot chocolate and coffee for my hot drink of choice. The deciding factor, for me, is that hot chocolate I feel can be drunk at any time of the day. Coffee, I can only drink until early afternoon. So, as much as I love it, coffee drinks got second place on the favourite fall drinks list. Bearing in mind that when I say coffee I am talking about any type of hot coffee drink.
A fire whether it is a bonfire or in a fireplace is always lovely in the evenings. Where I live it is much too hot the majority of the year to justify fireplaces. We, however, do love the lure of a big, beautiful bonfire. A properly built fire that lasts for a few hours in the evenings.
Depending on where you live, fireworks are a big part of the fall festivities. There are always loads of fireworks in my area. I love the colours and the brightness of fireworks, especially when you have an overlay of differing, but compatible colours.
These are just a few things that to me signify fall is here. These things inevitably get me into the mood for the fall season. Sometimes, it feels as though everything is going into hibernation. At these times the tried and true comfort filled things of fall won’t lead you astray.
